Auburn 81, Alabama 54

Boddie: does an Auburn good.

81-54. Seriously, you guys?
The No. 6 Auburn women's basketball team (23-1, 8-1 SEC) exploded for a 47-point first half en route to an 81-54 win over in-state rival Alabama (12-12, 0-9 SEC) Sunday at the Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

The win is Auburn's seventh in a row over the Crimson Tide, breaking the record for the longest Auburn win streak against Alabama and tying the all-time longest win streak by either team. The previous Auburn record was six wins from Feb. 1, 1981-Feb. 9, 1983 while Alabama's seven in a row came from 1976-79.
Seriously. Fortner called it the "most complete game" of the year, which, like, when you've taken Pat Summitt's bunch behind the woodshed, that's saying something.

Let me see if I can think of a team I'd have rather had this win come against.

Nope. Can't think of one. You know the best part of this game? Aside from, you know, the whole "81-54" thing and the "Whitney Boddie's assist-to-turnover ratio was 12-0" thing and the "23-1, 8-1 SEC" thing? Jay Tate's liveblog, which includes such gems as "Alabama doesn't have an offensive plan that I can detect," "Alabama is not a good team," and "How did Alabama get so bad? I mean, Rick Moody used to win a lot." (I'm pretty sure the answer to that last one is recruiting. I'm not the first person to point this out, but all five of Auburn's starters hail from Alabama and the entire team save a single Mississippi is either from Alabama or Georgia. Attention Lane Kiffin: that's a fence.) I know an Auburn football diehard shouldn't wallow in this kind of women's hoops-related schadenfreude, but wallowing can be so hard to come by these days. I'm cutting myself a break.

Auburn gets a home gimme against Kentucky Thursday, followed by tricky road trips to Starkville and Nashville. Win those, and whatever Charlie Creme has to say, a No. 1 seed should be just a handful of victories away.

All right, that's it for today. Sorry for the lack of football content--between the BlogPoll and some Real Life hoo-ha, been a weird, frenetic day for me. Make it up to you the remainder of the week.

Creme felt the beat down, Jerry. Has the ladies as a 1-seed now. Can ya wax a little for the baseball team, praying for a 1-seed for them this year ... hehe.

What's funny, BST, is that it's not like any of Auburn's wins were particularly high-quality. The one at LSU was OK but the others? Nah. He essentially just admitted he screwed up.
