So I have another long day at the job in a week full of them, come home to have one beer and watch just a bit of hoops and do my usual quick sweep of the college Interwebs before hitting the sack, and AW DAMMIT NOT THIS AGAIN, DAMMIT TO HELL.
Major tip of the hat to commenter Lovecrafty for the pic, a response to this post. I'm still in love with it, but boy, that "kthxbai" has taken on a sudden new twist in these last few hours, huh?
Seriously, WTF? The Arkansas media say it's a done deal and the Auburn media aren't even really trying to hide the fact they think the other side's full of it.
I've already said I don't fault Tubby for treating the AU gig as, well, a gig, and applying a little bit of Sexton-fueled leverage in the "Look at me! I'm the prettiest girl at the cotillion! Now, which of you dashing young suitors would like to buy me a drink?" vein isn't too far out of line.
But now, now I'm pissed. Whatever the good soldiers at al.com might say and whatever the ultimate outcome is--no one but Tubby and the dead animal he's going to whisper the truth to in the Arkansas woods tomorrow morning are going to know for sure until he's at a press conference podium--there's way, way too much smoke here for there to be no fire whatsoever. Tubby's talked to Arkansas. There have been discussions of a serious nature. I would guess he's gone far enough to get an offer he's going to bring home to wave in Jacobs face and say "You gonna match this or not?" I don't think Tubby's gone home with Arkansas just yet, but it looks to me he's been accepting their drinks, laughing too hard at their dumb jokes, and dragged them onto the dance floor for a song or two. If he comes back, I'm sure Tubby will tell us he's just having a bit of fun, just picking up a raise and some facility promises, that's all. It don't mean nothin', baby. Arkansas's just some team that happened to be there.
And in the meantime we Auburn fans are sitting on the couch at home with our laptops, checking our watches, brushing our teeth, telling ourselves we'll wait up one more hour and see what happens. It's 11:53 in Ann Arbor. I'm kinda nervous and it's going to take a while to go to sleep. If this is the way it's going to be, if this is how Tommy Tuberville's going to treat an Auburn community that's demanded multiple times he get whatever he feels is coming to him, I'm not sure any more how much I even want him to come home.
(Also, it has to be said, screw Bobby Lowder for making Auburn the sort of place Tubby would consider leaving in the first place.)
UPDATE: If it's true neither Tubby nor Sexton nor anyone associated with our coach has had any contact with the Hogs, as he claimed via Marshall's cell this a.m., then consider this post redacted. But I doubt that's been the case. He played with fire in this case and his program's taken a serious burn. We'll see.

I think you've been on "THE BUNKER" too many times. Tubs has said he will be at Auburn "As long as they want me". Can you not understand English?
Do you really have such a low opinion of him so as to think he would undercut his staff members (TO WHOM HE HAS ALWAYS BEEN LOYAL) and leave many of them high and dry lacking one year to become vested in the State Retirement system.
Or perhaps you are a BAMMER MOLE and have joined those loathsome scum Finebaum,Scarbinsky,Melick, et.al. in doing their best to hurt our recruiting by continuing to come up with this kind of garbage.
You are obviously still suffering from "Bulldogitis" . GET OVER IT!!!! WOULD YOU RATHER HAVE TINY TOT OR BARFIELD BACK ?
My bigger fear is that Tommy is more loyal to his assistants than he is to Lowder, et al. If he goes, they either take jobs elsewhere, or they go with him. Sure hope not, CTT's been good for us. The sky is not falling yet, and I believe that CTT has become an "Auburn Man", and therefore will do the right thing. I believe....
great post. aubigjoe must not have read what I did - i.e. that tubbs is allowing sexton to play lawyer and broker a sweeter deal. he would be crazy to go to arkansas after he nabbed their two best recruits last year, not to mention the rest of the highly touted rising sophomore class - most of which have already played. the biggest problem here is that we will get f__ed recruiting wise, and that will bite us in 3-5 years, but by that time Tubbs will really be gone, and Petrino will have had enough of the league to come on down to The Plains. WDE
TT isn't going anywhere. Look, 9 years at AU= 9 years in AL's state system. 1 more year, and TT and all of his merry staff can enjoy a state retirement plan. TT just wants facility upgrades and staff raises.
rumors are just that, rumors.
auburn will have the most talent we have ever had under tubby over the next 3 years on the field. if tubbs is going to get a big one, the next 3 years will be his time. he knows what talent is coming back.
as for him taking his time. he's a smart person, an excellent businessman. if he comes out and unequivocally declares no other interest, he doesn't get his upgrades.
what's really scary is that Spurrier isn't too happy with the progression of SoCar and if Miles heads off to Michigan (which is just laughable), then i don't even want to think about what LSU could become......
aubigjoe...shut up...starting yesterday
stay quiet...go sit in a corner...you suck at the internet
Stuart: Looks like everybody is out of step but you....YOU SOUND LIKE BEAR'S BOY---A NOTORIOUS BAMMER WHO POSTS REGULARLY ON TIDER INSIDER----AND WHO IS CONSTANTLY" POST-MONKEYED" ON WAYNE'S AUBURN BOARD DUE TO THE INANE NATURE OF HIS POSTS.

God, I hope it's not true. If he hasn't talked to the Pigs and it turns out he has, we'll know soon enough. At this point, despite a shaky past incident that might indicate otherwise, I'll take the man at his word. I may have egg on my face for it (not the first time in my life!), but if he does this to Auburn I'll never forgive him and I won't be alone. It's one thing to negotiate in good faith and another to lie to the people who've really supported you all along. I hope he (and College Football coaching as an honorable profession) haven't gone so far down that road that such a thing is possible. He's been good to Auburn and Auburn (or at least it's fans and Alumni) has been very good to him. I can't believe he doesn't realize that and everything he's actually said supports that statement. If it turns out otherwise, it's so despicable it's beneath contempt.

Ok, I got a bit blind-sided by this one...go away from the interweb for a couple of days to get some work done, and I get hit smack between the eyes with this. Reading around a bit now, I think he has been playing around, at least a little...and I don't like the way he has handle this at all now. He knows we are on edge, but he's only said enough to keep a raging fire from breaking out, but he's still keeping the logs smoldering. Not good.
College Football coaches, even good ones , come and go, but my first loyalty will always be to Auburn, and anybody who damages it get's tossed 'head first' into the pavement as far as I'm concerned. So, I still hope this is another 'Texas-Tech', but even if it isn't, at this point, there has been some damage, both to Auburn and to him (though he may not realize it yet). If he does stay, he needs to say a few things....

Damn, I meant TAMU..not TT..doesn't matter though..I don't care about either of them.

Gee you lose 4 games and you get a raise. THis guy should run for Governor. I do appreciate his Gator win however.
First of all, ok, It seems as though you acquired an actual college degree. (ua MS = "any other" u's BS) It is acknowledged as fact that all of Alabama's media admit to being Alabama fans (I'll pick with my heart, again, 'Alabama'). There is only one reason TT would leave Auburn: To start over at a ruined U. He passed on TAMU, twice (mexican Hot Dogs). Back to Arkansas? The reason people say he'd go is that he's a native son. Houston to Earth: Arkansas just ran off a native son!!!!
Well, I'm sure this is old news by now, but Tommy just agreed to the contract extension and said he's 'excited about it'. So, looks like it's over. Whew, now for some Chick-Fil-A action!

And if he loses to Clemson he should refund AUburn for his raise.
