Auburn V

Press play.

-----------------

This day is called the feast of Crispian:
He that outlives this day, and comes safe home,
Will stand a tip-toe when the day is named,

And rouse him at the name of Crispian.
He that shall live this day, and see old age,
Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours,
And say 'To-morrow is Saint Crispian:'
Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars.
And say 'These wounds I had on Crispin's day.'

Old men forget: yet all shall be forgot,
But he'll remember with advantages
What feats he did that day: then shall our names.
Familiar in his mouth as household words
Tubby the king, Muschamp and Borges,
Cox and Blackmon, Tate and Etheridge,
Be in their flowing cups freshly remember'd.

This story shall the good man teach his son;
And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remember'd;
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers ...

...

... Let me speak proudly: tell the constable
We are but warriors for the working-day;

Our gayness and our gilt are all besmirch'd
With rainy marching in the painful field;

There's not a piece of feather in our host--
Good argument, I hope, we will not fly--
And time hath worn us into slovenry:
But, by the mass, our hearts are in the trim ...

Go Auburn.
Beat LSU.
War Damn Eagle.

(Massive tip of the hat to commenters Pat and SCTiger for basically writing this post for me. I take it as a sign that maybe I am doing something right if I am drawing readers like these.)

I love it Jerry! (but then I would, wouldn't I?) You've given me too much credit..I just spent 1 minute digging up the video, Pat had the original idea, and you put together that amazing page. Ah, well, maybe not too many Shakespeare geeks in Auburn, but after the game we'll see who gets it then. For the record, I think it sums up the situation perfectly.

Cheers,

SCTiger

Thanks, Jerry. You do me great honor. Always glad to help.

For the players before the game....

"O God of battles! steel my soldiers' hearts;
Possess them not with fear; take from them now
The sense of reckoning, if the opposed numbers
Pluck their hearts from them."

Go Auburn. Beat LSU. War Eagle!

Well, that was a tough one. Damn, we grave them a hell of rough time...What a final drive by the 'O' too. Their 'O' was just too much in the end, but we went down fighting. War Eagle! all the same.

Not all epics finish with a victory. This team played just as hard as LSU with the balance between victory and defeat in question to the very last second of the game. That it went the other way is no shame on the team that lost.

None whatsoever.

These "warriors for the working day" will play again, with the same intensity and dedication as before. As Henry says,

"Yet, God before, tell him we will come on, though France himself and such another neighbour stand in our way..."

That is the difference between now and last month. It is also why this team is the only 3-loss team in the top 25. They have played arguably the best team in the land, and came within a single second of prevailing.

Again.

War Eagle
