Life with Tubby

Obviously there'll be more to say about the nuclear-quality meltdown at Jordan-Hare tomorrow, during All Blogging, All Dancing Sunday.

But for now, during the break between LSU-Florida and Georgia-Tennessee, let me say this: this is the trade-off Auburn makes with Tubby. We are going to recruit like mad. We are going to be compete for--if not win--SEC titles year-in and year-out. We are going to go to New Year's Bowls on a regular basis. We are going to get some terrific, terrific performances against top-10 teams and we are going to get some incredible upsets. I'd like to think we'll get another one next week.

But as long as Tubby is Auburn's coach, we're also going to have to accept the fact that the Tigers will never do well with prosperity. That for every amazing Auburn win we can't believe happened, there's going to be a soul-crushing upset from a team that shouldn't even come within shouting distance of Tubby's bunch. That's the trade-off. That's the way it is. A team takes on the personality of its coach, and the personality of Auburn's coach is to spend his week worrying about what happens if his team goes 12-0 and finishes third in the polls again than an opponent that had two weeks to prepare for the game.

That's Tubby. It's the way it's always going to be. That's the trade-off. Is it worth it? Yes, yes, I suppose it is. But I'd prefer you not ask me again until tomorrow.

Everytime this happens, I reminded of how special the 2004 team was.

Ain't that the truth.
