Even if it's "Shane"'s work that draws most of the attention here, it's still "CR"'s site and didn't think it was in the best of taste to attack it immediately after the post on his mother.

Hobbes: Consider this your hat tip for the Serious Cat. I didn't spend much time, um, at the time trying to remember where I'd seen it first, but it was probably your Wayne's sig. And I second the love for FJM.

TSBG: Thanks.

Hobnail: Eh, I'll allow that "Tide homer" might be pushing it. Finebaum's allegiance is to himself and his ratings first and everything else second, for certain.

But read the TWER post I linked (not to mention their latest on PF's Stabler flip-flop) and consider what brand of blog he's backing, and then tell me he doesn't at least have a pronounced lean in his sympathies.Jerry Hinnenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15097537044668238939noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20559458.post-77921388924958718652008-06-18T18:06:00.000-04:002008-06-18T18:06:00.000-04:00"Tide homer"?Really? Take bammer to task every chance you get. If others don't like it, nothing is forcing them to read it (other than the fact that it is highly entertaining and straight to point). As someone who does "blog*" I understand, somewhat, the issues that go a long with it. I think you do a fine job here, and JCCW is up there with my other favorites i.e. EDSBS, LwithS, Calynation, Barking Carnival, M Zone... well you get the point. Unlike the verbal diarrhea that passes for posts on the crapstone report, there are bammer blogs out there that provide excellent material. Blogs that finebaum does a great disservice by perpetuating this myth that the CR is the bammer blog of bammer blogs**. Keep up the good work Jerry.

That Hobbes Guy: I thought I read somewhere that a group of miscreant interweeb Noobz were putting together just such a "Fire Finebaum" site. Just what I heard. Wonder what ever became of that?

* I take some liberties here. I'm not linking said blog because A) I know it sucks and B) it's main purpose is to keep my family and friends updated and serve as a repository for all my favorite blog links.

** Not that I'd ever be caught dead reading a bammer blog.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20559458.post-20576833354150714272008-06-17T06:43:00.000-04:002008-06-17T06:43:00.000-04:00Nice piece Jerry. Sorry Shane's mom had a stroke, but that doesn't make him any better of a writer or our piece any less true.

Oh and nice reference to "Serious Cat". And to those who think Shane is the Bama equivalent of Will Collier, well yeah, that would be if Shane had half a brain, a sense of humor beyond the sixth grade level and could write. Will does tend toward the conspiracy theory some times but he can write. Or least when he does write, he can. But that is what happens when a blogger has a real job.

Quite frankly I'd love to see a firepaulfienbaum.com site, much like firejoemorgan.com which is one of the best blogs out there. Other than the fact I don't have enough time and can't write, I'd do it.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20559458.post-35259793132079538862008-06-16T12:32:00.000-04:002008-06-16T12:32:00.000-04:00Anon, it's not about how often CR posts about Aubu...Anon, it's not about how often CR posts about Auburn, it's about the quality of those posts. Yes, I had a dig at their amount of Auburn-related content, but--as I said in the footnote at the bottom of the post--that's simply a response to the "Auburn fans are obsessed with Alabama, Alabama fans don't care about Auburn" meme that many Tide fans seem to subscribe to. CR could be named "Auburn Blows" and write every single post about how badly Tubby and the Tigers suck, and I honestly would not care as long as they had valid points to make and argued them in a rational, coherent manner.

Which Will most certainly does IMO even when he's talking about the Tide. In terms of the quality of their content, what CR puts out is not even close to "the same thing" as what Will does.Jerry Hinnenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15097537044668238939noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20559458.post-8591920246333680872008-06-16T11:29:00.000-04:002008-06-16T11:29:00.000-04:00Jerry,The whole pointing out about Will Collier wa...Jerry,

The whole pointing out about Will Collier was for a reason. I've seen his site, and about half of his posts have been on either Nick Saban or Alabama.

In fact, the guy wrote some stupid blog on how David Wasson was supposedly posting under some Oscar the Grouch (or similar to that) on TideInsider.com about that New York Times Sociology article when the story broke. This was all done on some VodkaPundit website btw.

He got a ton of attention from Paul Finebaum and Bobby from Homewood (the Auburn rival of Shane, who you seem to take to task in this post)

That is a classic case of trying to blame others and divert attention from your own problems.

Now ask yourself this, is it worth it pointing out the flaws on the other side when you have those who constantly do the same thing on your side?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20559458.post-20110686218865585952008-06-12T06:04:00.000-04:002008-06-12T06:04:00.000-04:00Wow, I cant believe you arent going to kick him wh...Wow, I cant believe you arent going to kick him when he is down. That I'm not sure about.

This post wasn't intended as an straight-ahead "Anti-Bama" screed; the point I was trying to make is that the media conversation surrounding Auburn and Alabama football has long been dominated by mistruths, bias, and sensationalism, and now certain bloggers are trying to take the blogging conversation down that same detestable path. And they're succeeding. This is a bad, bad thing, and I still think that's a point worth making.

Now, did this post have a nasty streak to it? Yep. It's there because I think it's better to talk in specifics about my gripes with CR than in the general, and because frankly I thought it made for a more entertaining read.

But if that nastiness so overwhelms my point that all readers come away with is BITCH BITCH BITCH--and that seems to be the case for you, Sully--then, yeah, the post either needs to be seriously revised or scrapped. I won't argue that there's something to the idea that it "wasn't worth writing in the first place" if I wasn't comfortable leaving it up this morning.

We'll see. Anyone else out there who read the post before I yanked it have any thoughts?

Anon: I appreciate the input. But for me personally, the only thing I'd change about Will is how often he posts.Jerry Hinnenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15097537044668238939noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20559458.post-40505570803838570662008-06-09T15:18:00.000-04:002008-06-09T15:18:00.000-04:00I second the first opinion. If you feel bad now that the gentleman's mother is suffering, chances are, the blog wasn't worth writing in the first place.

I'd rather look forward to your posts on the upcoming season as an Auburn fan, rather than as an 'Anti-Bama' blogger. Let the other side do that. Rise above the temptation and you'll be a better man.

Sullivan

*Just in my humble Irish opinionSullivan013https://www.blogger.com/profile/01835038525209475768noreply@blogger.com
